The SEW-Arts Framework: Map the Gap Tool

How arts educators teach to promote SEWB

In line with social-ecological theory, how your arts organisation operates, including its culture, policies, and interaction with the community, can significantly impact the social and emotional wellbeing (SEWB) of children and adolescents who participate in programs.

Feedback from arts personnel suggested that the promotion of SEWB needed to be embedded into the structure and operation of arts organisations. To help arts organisations achieve this, we used the Friendly Schools Map the Gap Tool as a basis and adapted it for arts organisations with input from AgWA, West Australian Ballet and WAYTCo.

Using the SEW-Arts Map the Gap Tool, identify your strengths as an organisation that promotes SEWB. There may be opportunities to promote these within your organisation and arts community (if you aren’t currently). Identify your areas of need and plan to focus on one or more of these.
