The Global Asthma Network: Understanding asthma in urban and regional Western Australia

Investigators: Rachel Foong, Graham Hall, Alexandra Whelan, Nick De Klerk

Asthma is a common lung disease affecting children. Diagnosis of asthma in preschool children is also difficult and affects management of the disease. This study will use an international Global Asthma Network platform to uncover asthma prevalence, severity and burden in children and families in Western Australia and understand how the disease is managed. We will determine if there are differences in asthma risk in people living in metropolitan Perth or regional areas in Western Australia. From this information, we hope to identify environmental and social risk factors for asthma. This will allow us to develop interventions specific to families living in Western Australia.
