Kumaparniku Initiative

In the Kariyarra language of the traditional owners of Port Hedland, Kumaparniku means ‘all together in one’. Over the next couple of years, we will be conducting some research that will look at how we can work together to grow up strong healthy babies and kids.

In the Kariyarra language of the traditional owners of Port Hedland, Kumaparniku means ‘all together in one’. Over the next couple of years, we will be conducting some research that will look at how we can work together to grow up strong healthy babies and kids.

Wirraka Maya Health Service and Julyardi Aboriginal Corporation are supporting us and this initiative is funded by BHP.

We will be looking at what makes families strong, and what they need to be stronger and healthier.

The Hedland Aboriginal Strong Leaders group will give us cultural guidance.

We will have a group of community members to help us with the co-design of the research, put it into action, and looking at how we can make the research better.

We will be offering jobs for Aboriginal community members to work on this research with us.

We will also be working with services and government agencies to help them meet the needs of families and to make things better for families, depending on what you tell us.

To help with making sure we work together with services and make change, we will also have a group of professionals who will guide us.
