Kids Menu Study

Investigators: Gina Trapp, Miriam Hurworth, Gabriella Wells

This research study is a collaboration between the East Metropolitan Health Service and The Kids Research Institute Australia.

The study aims to investigate the current status of Kids’ Meals in cafes and restaurants located within the 13 Local Government Areas (LGA’s) encompassing the East Metropolitan Health Service (EMHS) and identify whether supports are needed to improve the nutritional quality of food choices offered to children.

The key objectives are to:

1) Benchmark the current status of Kids' Meals in non-chain restaurants across the EMHS by LGA (i.e., the proportion that have a separate Kids' Menu, number of meals/items on offer, type and price of meals offered, provision of nutrition information/guidance and the marketing and promotional strategies used).

2) Identify any differences in nutritional quality of Kids' Meals between the top 10 chain brand fast-food outlets, cafes and full service, sit down, restaurants in the EMHS.
