Discover . Prevent . Cure .

Acute infection and long term follow-up of people with HIV

Investigators: Peter Le Souef

Project description

There have been almost no studies of the first illness caused by HIV infection. We have recruited adults from Mozambique who have presented to hospital with a febrile illness and determined which adults have acute HIV infection. At the time of this illness we have collected data and samples to determine the levels of gene expression which predict the long term outcomes of adults with acute HIV. This will potentially lead to new treatments for acute HIV that could prevent the development of disease.
