Telethon Kids Institute shares in new infrastructure funding

The Telethon Kids Institute welcomes the State Government's new $1.2 million funding initiative to support WA's research institutes.

The Telethon Kids Institute welcomes the State Government's new $1.2 million funding initiative to support WA's research institutes.

The funding, announced by Health Minister Kim Hames today, is designed to help the state's medical and health research institutes meet necessary infrastructure costs associated with their research programs.

The Telethon Kids Institute is one of six health and medical research Institutes in WA allocated funds in the first round of Research Institute Support grants.

The funding will cover expenses such as building maintenance, facilities, information technology and administration.

Telethon Kids Institute Director Professor Jonathan Carapetis applauded the State Government's funding commitment.

"Our research funding only covers about 70% of the costs of actually doing the research, so infrastructure funding is essential for us to do research," Professor Carapetis said. "And it is grants like these that make research more sustainable in WA."
