$11 million funding boost for child health research

Telethon Kids Institute researchers have been awarded more than $11.3 million in funding from the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC).

Telethon Kids Institute researchers have been awarded more than $11.3 million in funding from the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC).

The NHMRC grants, which are awarded once a year, were announced today by the Minister for Health, the Hon Sussan Ley.

Telethon Kids Institute Director Professor Jonathan Carapetis said the NHMRC grants would fund vital research into a range of child health areas, including Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder, Aboriginal child health, disability and infectious diseases.

"This is fantastic news for our researchers and will enable them to continue working to solve the complex puzzles surrounding many childhood health issues," Professor Carapetis said.

Professor Carapetis said while the NHMRC scheme could only fund a proportion of project applications, researchers were hopeful the Medical Research Future Fund  (MRFF) will add important capacity to the sector. The successful Telethon Kids Institute grants include:
