Gillian is the Senior Project Coordinator in the Strep A Translation team. She will be supporting the newly formed Indigenous Governance Council and the Global Health Challenge.

Throughout my career, I have held various roles that have allowed me to gain valuable experience in community engagement with children, young people, families, Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations (ACCOs), and elders. I have developed and nurtured relationships with key stakeholders both internally and externally, and I have successfully networked with government agencies, city councils, reference groups, and social service providers to support families and communities.

Prior to commencing at The Kids, Gillian worked in the FIFO industry for the last 5.5years and recently changed sectors to re-engage working with her First Nation peoples in WA. She is passionate about working with her mob and aims to share her cultural knowledge, lived experiences to her team and brings with her; skills & experience working with the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community through the arts, government, child protection, Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation’s and community service providers.

Gillian is enjoying her time learning from the team of the collaborations, outcomes generated from these collabs, partnerships built and the whole-team commitment to ongoing research in infectious diseases, in particular healthy outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, their families and communities.

Optimising detection of thrombosis in paediatric Staphylococcus aureus bacteraemia: A prospective interventional sub-study protocol

Staphylococcus aureus bacteraemia (SAB) is the most common cause of sepsis, contributing to paediatric intensive care unit admission in Australia and New Zealand. While deep venous thrombosis (DVT) has been reported in children with invasive S. aureus infections, the actual frequency and possible effects of thrombosis on disease severity and outcome in paediatric SAB remain unknown. Moreover, guidance regarding imaging for paediatric SAB management are poorly defined.
