Maame Akua Korsah (Akua) is a mathematical biologist whose research focuses on understanding how the spread of infectious diseases is influenced by public health interventions and how these interventions can be optimally designed to control and eliminate diseases. She is currently completing her PhD at the University of Melbourne, where she developed mathematical models to evaluate malaria control strategies. Her work combines mechanistic modelling, Bayesian inference, and cost-effectiveness analysis to inform evidence-based public health decisions. Akua is passionate about using quantitative approaches to address health challenges that disproportionately affect low- and middle-income countries. Her broader research spans malaria, cholera, dengue fever, and COVID-19, and she collaborates closely with international research teams. She is particularly committed to bridging mathematics, data science, and public health to improve outcomes for communities most affected by infectious diseases.

As a member of the team, Akua contributes to the conceptualisation, development, optimisation, and application of cutting-edge mathematical and statistical methods to estimate and understand the health impact of existing and novel malaria interventions. This work supports Research and Development (R&D), policy, and implementation decisions on current and next-generation malaria tools, their combined use, and their potential to reduce or eliminate disease.

Outside of work, Akua enjoys spending time with family and friends, trying new recipes, and playing card games. UNO and Phase10 are among her favourites.
