Niamh completed her BSc (Hon) Biomedical Science at Maynooth University, Ireland in 2010 and commenced her PhD at the University of Western Australia, and the Systems Immunology team at The Kids in 2016.

Her interests are on the maturation of the infant innate immune system, and how it can be impacted by respiratory viral infections during early childhood, a critical window for asthma and allergy development.

The focus of her work is to contribute to developing a preventative treatment for asthma, through innate immune training during infancy. To do this, she is combining immunology with transcriptomics and network graph theory to understand the mechanisms of action of a therapeutic intervention aimed at driving immune maturation during infancy as a potential asthma preventative.
