How April got her spark back after T1D diagnosis

How research changed April’s life with Type 1 diabetes.

From daily injections at age three to pioneering insulin pump therapy at six, April’s life was transformed by research and now she’s helping The Kids reimagine what life with Type 1 diabetes can be.

Diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at just three-years-old, April’s early life meant daily insulin injections and long nights of finger-prick blood sugar checks. Her mum, Leeann, remembers the constant worry and exhaustion that came with managing the disease.

At six, April became the youngest child in Western Australia to receive an insulin pump through The Kids. The pump reduced hypoglycaemia episodes, made her diabetes diagnosis easier to manage, and gave April the freedom to enjoy her childhood. Now she’s come full circle, working with The Kids to bring that same change to more families - a story she and Leeann share in this interview.
