Join the Youth Mental Health LGBTQ+ reference group

The Youth Mental Health team is looking for a diverse group of young people to help inform research into mental health in LGBTIQ+ young people.

Who can take part?

The Youth Mental Health team is looking for a diverse group of young people aged 12-25 to help inform several research studies into mental health in LGBTQ+ young people. Whether you’re trans or gender diverse, attracted to the same gender and/or have an intersex variation, we’re interested in hearing what you have to say about our research and about youth mental health in the LGBTQ+ community.

What does joining our reference group involve?

We’re planning and currently conducting a range of research studies looking at mental health difficulties experienced by LGBTQ+ youth. Our studies are currently focused on suicide prevention, stigma and the development of treatments to help improve the mental health of LGBTQ+ young people. You may or may not have lived experience of mental health difficulties. We are eager to hear your thoughts about how to improve mental health of LGBTQ+ young people in Australia regardless of what experience you have; however, based on your experiences you may be invited to give your insight for different research projects.

As a member of the LGBTQ+ reference group, you’ll be occasionally invited to take part in group discussions about our research and how we can best represent the interests of young people like you. You’re under no obligation to take part in all these consultations, and you’re more than welcome to only attend those that are relevant to you. When you attend, you’ll be reimbursed for your time.

How you can apply

If you would like to share your thoughts and experiences and contribute to research on how we can best support young people like you, register your interest by emailing LGBTIQ@telethonkids.org.au. Please provide your name, age and a brief statement about why you’re interested in taking part.
